Is it normal for hissers (Gromphadorhina portentosa) not eating always? Or having a small appetite?
I have this colony of hissers, maybe 15+ hissers (mixed male female and juveniles).
The enclosure is a large (10+ gallon maybe) plastic bin with screen top lid with 2 groups of dwelling structure (for territory) made up of cardboard tissue rolls and barks.
2 dishes with ground dry dog food high and dish for fruits and veggies and one dish with water and small stones.
I give them thin carrot slices, mango peelings and banana peelings.
I see bites on the veggies and small decrease of dog food. But is it normal for them not to consume the foods rapidly (just reasonable for the colony size)??? I think they don't have much appetite?
Do I have to place the foods in a hidden secure and dark area of the enclosure(is night time not their chance to eat)? I keep the dishes in an open area of the enclosure to avoid molds forming.
By the way I have the colony for almost 3 months now.
Can anyone please right what am I doing wrong. Or better can anyone give share me their enclosure setup in detail and the foods and the dishes placement etc.!
I'm from the Philippines (tropical country) so I guess there's no humidity or temperature issue.
