That's cool. I don't think we have any wild ones around here. I wish i lived in florida. They have all kinds of roaches there.

How would you go about finding out what species are in your area?

google for distribution maps for what species you want i guess , or search for your state and roaches and see what happens

OK... Well the University of Missouri lists five species occuring in MO: Blattella germanica (German cockroach), Supella longipalpa (Brownbanded cockroach), Periplaneta americana (American cockroach), Blatta orientalis (Oriental cockroach), Parcoblatta spp (Wood cockroach). Not sure if I would want to start a colony of any of these.

Wow the brownbanded cockroach is really pretty. Those might be really intersting to keep if you could find some.

Could they be a relative to the fire fly roach, Schultesia lampyridiformis? Or is it somekind of Parcoblatta?

Looks like they are considered a pest. After looking at the picture of them they are kind of cool looking. I don't think I've ever seen one though.

When I was a boy growing up in Mississippi, we use to catch roaches in wire traps for fishing. Traps were domed shaped, with narrow funnel in the top. Placed bread in bottom and put trap in basement. Have moved away from Mississippi but am looking for this type of roach trap. Can't seem to find them. Anyone know where I might look?
