Here are a few new pics from an unidentified roach endemic to South Africa, which I have had in my collection for some months. Perhaps these will make ID clearer...

Hi Huntsman,
It looks just like a very commonly kept species.

Hey Orin -
Very common...but un-named?
Sooooo....... can I name it, then?
Blatta capensis...really nice ring to that.?? :p

Oxyhaloa deusta?
What are these species like to keep? Anyone know the 'generation time'.

Can't tell you much, I'm afraid...
They seem hardy and are fairly prolific, but I have them in a mixed bin, where we hold all strays and new roaches prior to ID. They are not very docile, and a little skittery. :)
I didn't say they didn't have a name.

No you certainly did not.
You didn't provide one either.
Did my sense of humour offend you?

The species is Oxyhaloa deusta (Thunberg, 1784), a widespread sub-Saharan African species

Thanks, mate!
I have a nice little colony going so perhaps their sales can supplement my hobby! ;)
Do you know much about them? Climbers, burrowers, etc? I have observed mine, of course, but would like to know if they are typical...
